Accumulator Application42.1.WEnergy StorageAn Accumulator stores the surplus fluid dischargedfrom a pump, and releases the fluid instantaneouslywhen actuators require oil volume intermittently abovethe pump discharge capacity. Therefore, the pump can be miniaturized and the noiseand the temperature of hydraulic fluid can be decreasedby ON-OFF operation. Moreover, the heat exchanger andthe electric facility can also be miniaturized, and generallyat least 20% of energy can be saved. Please refer to pages 6~9 about energy savings usingaccumulators.Counter BalanceAn Accumulator settled in conjunction with ahydraulic cylinder can be used to absorb energy fromthe cylinders and acts as a counter balance for a largeload.Pressure maintenance circuitTemperature CompensationIn a closed hydraulic system, the volume of fluidexpands when there is a rise in system temperature (itshrinks when temperature drops). If the expansion ofthe fluid is great enough, it may cause damage to thesystem components. Accumulators can be used toabsorb this expansion of the fluid.Leakage compensation An Accumulator can also be used to make up fluidlost through leakage, cold temperatures, and otherchange in fluid volume. So, the constant systempressure can be obtained.Shock absorptionAn Accumulator acts as a gas spring and can beused to absorb shocks between the wheels and thebody of a vehicle.
